Summer Reading Program

One of our favorite summer activities is the summer reading programs offered through our local library and Barnes and Noble. Both are free and a great way to keep kids reading through the summer.
The reading program through Barnes and Noble is for grades 1-6th. This year's theme is based on books by the popular children's author, Andrew Clements. All your children have to do is read 8 books, take their reading log to the store, and they can chose a free book from the list of paperback titles.

Have fun reading!!

A Savvy Baby Fabulous Find & Give Away

If you haven't been to erincondren.com you must go NOW.
Erin Condren is the creator of family stationary and other great finds!
One of our favorites is the "This book belongs to..." & "The Growth chart
measure me"!

PERSONALIZED GROWTH CHART
See how your child compares to famous people, four-legged friends & family members...keep track and compare as they grow!
For years we have been making pen marks on our bedroom wall to track the fast-growing height of my son & daughter.
The measure me growth chart is printed on CANVAS!
The chart is water resistant, smudgeproof, and of course, PERSONALIZED.
The top of the chart features the child’s name and birthdate.
The left side is a list of everyone from R2D2 to Shaquille O’Neill (go online to see a list of names)
The right side can be printed with your family members & friends, or if it is a gift, the names can be handwritten in later under the corresponding heights. (I suggest using a “sharpie” so they last forever, like the chart will!)
The best part is that it can go with you whereever life may take you.
Two grommets allow you to hang it on any wall, but it can easily roll up and move whereever you do...how fun to think that someday your kids might use it to compare the growth of your grandkids! crazy.
The Erin Condren Team is doing a giveaway!!! A free pack of flat notecards!
So go online and tell us your favorite thing on Erin Condren and we will pick a winner on Friday!!!

Also...it keeps getting better. Erin Condren has also offered A Savvy Baby readers 10% off any online order!
Enter "Savvybaby10" in the coupon redeem bar and double click and it will automatically deduct the 10% off discount!
Enjoy Shopping.
Thank you Erin Condren!
We love your site!

Recycled Chunky Crayons

One of our favorite sites is Make and Takes. It is full of fun craft ideas, recipes, and loads of fun things to do with your little ones. One of our favorite projects is the Recycled Chunky Crayons. It is a great way to transform all of your broken crayons into something new and exciting. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to turn your broken unused crayons into something new.

Recycled Chunky Crayons:

Get out your old crayons. Take off the paper (if it is still on) and break them up into smaller pieces (kids love to help with this.)

Spray your muffin tin (below is a mini muffin tin) with vegetable spray and pour some crayons into each spot. The more or less you put depends on what size you want for each chunky crayon. You can also group the crayons into colors that are fun together, red and blue for purple, pink tones for girls, or blue tones for boys.

Place the muffin tin full of crayons into a preheated oven of 275 degrees F. I used both mini muffin tins and large muffin tins. Watch them carefully, they will melt fast. Bake them for about 7-8 minutes. When they looked melted enough, carefully and slowly remove them from the oven. You can stir them with a toothpick for a swirly look, or leave them as is. Let them cool completely (can be placed in the freezer to speed up process once the tin is not so hot.)

Once cooled, the crayons can be popped out of the muffin tin, tap the back to help this process. Then get the paper out and your ready to color.

We hope you enjoy this fun craft that we discovered from Make and Takes. Stay tuned....Marie, the founder of Make and Takes, will be a guest blogger in August! We can't wait to see what fun ideas she has in store!!
